  • Friday September 11, 5-7 PM Social Justice Gathering at Davida’s house- 1023 Dublin Street
    Co-sponsored by other student organizations on campus as well. Come meet other students interested in public interest law and social justice. Learn how to get involved in the New Orleans area and what exciting opportunities lie ahead for you in your career as a social justice attorney! Event will be catered by Reginelli’s Pizzeria!
  • Tuesday September 22, 12:30-2 PM Katie Schwartzmann from the ACLU speaking. Location TBA.
    Katie Schwartzmann is the director of the Louisiana chapter of the ACLU. She is an attorney who has worked on a number of different issues and she will be speaking about how she got involved at the ACLU, what it means to be a public interest lawyer, and about the ACLU generally.
  • Tuesday October 13, 12:30-2 PM Tory Pegram from the Childrens Defense Fund speaking. Location TBA.
    Tory Pegram currently works with the Children’s Defense Fund in their cradle-to-prison pipeline program. She is not an attorney but she has a great deal of experience working with attorneys. She will be speaking about her previous work at the ACLU, her current work at the Childrens Defense Fund and about ways that attorneys can learn to work better with non-attorneys to accomplish their goals.
  • Tuesday October 27, 12:30-2 Clinic Faculty speaking. Location TBA.
    Faculty members who teach in Loyola’s Law Clinic will be speaking about the many opportunities available in the clinics, and what the law students’ role is.
  • Tuesday November 10, 12:30-2 PM Panel with attorney from OPD, DA’s office and a Criminal Court Judge. Location TBA.
    Come hear an assistant district attorney, a public defender and a criminal court judge speak about their roles in the criminal justice system. Learn about the ways in which their jobs are related to “public interest law” and about their wonderful experiences so far!

    • Public Interest funding seminar: learn about the Federal Loan Repayment Program and how a career in public interest law really is feasible.
