History

The history of the Loyola Maritime Law Journal rests in the old volumes of The American Mariner (AM. MAR. L.J.), a Journal once published annually by the students of Loyola University College of Law.

In 2002, under the leadership of then Editor-in-Chief, Robert Guidry, this journal received the blessing of Loyola University College of Law and was named the Loyola Maritime Law Journal. It was said in the inaugural issue,

"It is fitting that Loyola University New Orleans College of Law host this Journal. Loyola is an excellent school where many of the leading members of the admiralty bar have received their education. The new Journal will serve them and the Loyola students as well as maritime practitioners around the world." Thomas J. Schoenbaum, J.D., Ph.D.
